Enfield Hunter/Rabbit Tile

$350.00

Enfield Pottery, Enfield, PA   1906-1930

The tiles from Enfield were quite varied, ranging from deeply molded figures on unglazed terra cotta to high-line molded, glazed tiles.   This antique tile depicts a hunter probably looking for the rabbit, which appears to be snickering behind his back.  This tile is number 8 in a set of 20 tiles entitled "Incidents in the Days Work on the Farm", from an undated Enfield catalog.
The modeling of the figure's clothing is particularly fine.  Roughly made with thick terra cotta and glazed in the recessed area with deep, glossy cobalt. A page from Enfield’s catalog is shown.

4 1/4” x 4 1/4” x 1” thick

Very good condition; never set
